Brian Walker was a superb and prolific illustrator who in the s and s wrote touring articles for Cycling and the CTC Gazette and illustrated with his own line drawings. He also did a series of line drawings for an early Jack Taylor catalogue which were exchanged for a Jack Taylor bike which we will shortly have for sale too. This bike is in excellent quite lightly used condition. It has a Huret Luxe long arm rear gear, Huret front derailleur and shifters, Mafac Racer brakes, Simplex wide ratio 3-arm chainrings, Milremo stem, Milremo large-flange hubs and Constrictor Asp rims. Reynolds Cantiflex tubing This Bates Vegrandis bicycle has been very nicely restored with very period green paintwork and chrome plating. It has been fitted with Durax double fluted cranks, a 2spd Sturmey Archer TF fixed gear, Solite front hub and Constrictor Asp rims, Resilion cantilever brakes and period handlebars with Chater-Lea stem. Their first attempts were quite crude but in they launched a new aluminium frame design which was in reality the French equivalent of the Italian Alan — I think they were built in reasonable numbers — I have seen quite a number on my continental travels and seem to have been supplied to a number of French shops for them to be labelled as their own. This bike is built with Stronglight chainset, Simplex gears and seatpost, 3TTT bars and stem and CLB brakes and is in excellent condition with no cracks or other problems… Rather unusual.

Road Bikes of the 2013 Tour de France
What could be cuter than a girl with a blinking butt! I got a lot of giggles riding it, I’ve even had people sing the wicked witch theme song while I was riding by. But, I don’t care, it’s such a fun bike. Haven’t been able to ride it for a while. Can’t wait to take it for a spin, as soon as my back and hips can handle it.

Here’s Eric Heiden at the Detroit Criterium on a bike with no decals. Blog reader Tom e-mailed me his take on Eric’s unmarked bike: I think Heiden’s unlabeled bike is a Ritchey. The seat stay treatment by the seat pin clamp is identical to an early Ritchey I owned. Quite similar to Eisentraut’s. Notice also the stem, which looks to be threadless. I know a guy from Palo Alto who rode junior Nats on the track pursuit and kilo on a Ritchey with the same stem type.

She competed in the races of the time, in her home state of California, on this extraordinary 20 lb full Nuovo Record Campagnolo machine, riding tubular Fiamme rims laced to high flange Campagnolo Nuovo Record hubs. When she stopped racing, she swapped out the wheelset for a more useful clincher set with a wider gearing ratio, shown below.
Amazingly, it is still lovely and appears easily restorable to its original glory. Such a bike, if sold on eBay, would simply be stripped into its separate parts and re-sold at a profit, because it is now true that a complete bike is worth less than the sum of its parts. But, not for Tina.

Posted 10 August – Please can someone tell me more about this beauty I have just found Colnago Bititan. The double downtube was an attempt to make it stiff without adding weight. It is not as stiff as later frames, but it has a reputation for being a very comfortable bike to ride over long distances. The geometry is pretty racy but not too extreme. They never made many of them and the unusual design will always make people do a double take and start conversations wherever you go.
Yes, it is collectible and worth keeping and riding.

Alan produced some aluminum frames for Colnago in the s, including single and dual downtube road and cyclocross models. Both received favorable reviews, although some thought the shift of manufacturing out of Italy was a matter of some regret.

Quite a natural question to ask, especially if you are thinking about buying a C Its always a hard decision, especially when there is a new kid on the block! So, I have decided to write about these two frames. Sadly, the EPS is no longer in production, but dealers do still have models in stock. If we look at both models in turn, the structural engineering is very different. Obviously if you are reading this, then you will be familiar with the tube and lug differences between both models.
The only thing which remains the same are the forks which are amazing. Rock solid and inspire confidence, especially on a very fast decent! The C59 tubes are more of a clover leaf in design which is achieved by using a Mandrel. This external rib effect most certainly offers more rigidity and stiffness. At the rear end, again some big differences. You certainly notice the stiffness at the rear end of the C59, especially when you give the frame some beans. So, how does this all tally up on the road.

Lynskey is one of the oldest hands in the titanium game, but the R DIsc is a modern take on the titanium frame. For some titanium fans that might seem sacrilegious, but as a number of stainless steel bikes have shown, painting expensive metals can enhance the beauty of a frame — such as the Condor Super Acciaio. For Lynskey, this approach is something the company is trialling this year.
As well as the bike pictured, bare metal, satin finish or mirror polished R s are also available. As with an aluminium frame, or steel for that matter, the titanium used in a bike frame is actually an alloy. I saw one mess up once and blast the ingot through the wall and out into the parking lot, where it smashed through a car roof. The head tube on this 55cm effective top tube bike is a hair over 13cm, making for a large saddle-to-bar drop.
